Building capability. Creating opportunity. Supporting sustainable futures.
The Capability Stack CIC provides personalised employment and enterprise support for adults who face barriers to employment, self-employment, and wider economic participation.
We don’t believe there is one route into work—and we don’t expect everyone to fit the same programme. Some people know exactly what they want to do next. Others know that their current situation isn’t working, but aren’t sure where to go from here. That’s where we start.
We take the time to understand what you’re good at, what interests you, how you work best, what might be getting in the way, and what you’d like to achieve. Then, we work with you to co-design a pathway that makes sense for you.
It’s not just about getting a job. It’s about building the capability to sustain one..
Employment isn’t sustainable simply because someone has found a vacancy and submitted an application.
It depends on finding the right environment, understanding your own strengths, developing the capabilities you need and having practical experience of putting those capabilities into action.
For some people, the right pathway will lead to employment.
For others, it might mean self-employment, collaborative enterprise, further development or a combination of different opportunities.
There isn’t one definition of success.
Your pathway. Your capabilities. Your next step.
Our support can include:
Capability Development: Building confidence, communication, practical, and workplace capabilities through mentoring, creative activities, real-world experience, and opportunities to practise in a supportive environment.
Practical Work Experience: Opportunities to test, apply, and demonstrate skills across sectors through live community events, local venue operations, group projects, and hosted activities.
Employment Preparation: Exploring suitable working environments, developing workplace adaptability, and preparing for sustainable employment.
Supported Enterprise: Exploring self-employment, micro-business ideas, and co-founder matchmaking where these align with your skills and goals.
No rigid schemes. Plans co-designed around you.
Traditional employment support can sometimes feel like being asked to fit yourself into a programme that was designed for somebody else.
We take a different approach.
We work one-to-one with participants, either online or in relaxed, informal environments, depending on what works best for them.
We start with a conversation.
We listen.
We explore what’s already there.
And then we build the pathway together.
Your plan isn’t a fixed programme that you are expected to follow regardless of what happens. It can develop as you gain confidence, discover new possibilities and learn more about what works for you.
What could your Capability Stack look like?
Everyone brings a different combination of skills, experience, interests, strengths and support needs.
You might be highly capable technically but struggle with interviews.
You might have a great business idea but need help turning it into something practical.
You might have plenty of experience but have lost confidence after a difficult period.
You might simply know that the conventional route isn’t working for you.
We help you identify the capabilities you already have, understand the ones you want to develop, and explore how they could connect to real opportunities.
Your starting point doesn’t have to determine your destination.
From Capability to Opportunity
We don’t want capability development to stop at workshops or conversations. Where appropriate, we create practical opportunities for participants to take part, contribute, and gain real experience.
Applied Practice & Creative Rehearsal
Not everyone builds confidence by sitting in a classroom or talking about their difficulties. Sometimes it comes from doing something together.
Our creative and practical approach—led through applied drama, scenario role-play, and collaborative projects—gives participants a safe, low-pressure space to rehearse real-world situations. Whether it’s preparing for a challenging interview, exploring different communication styles, or managing workplace anxiety, these session-based activities allow you to practise social interaction in ways that feel natural and engaging.
The aim isn’t to provide therapy. It’s to offer a practical sandbox to rehearse, build confidence, and discover what you’re capable of.
Live Events & Sector Work Experience
We connect that creative preparation directly to real-world application. Through live community events, local venue operations at our community hub, and collaborative group projects, participants gain short, supported work-experience placements across a range of sectors.
Whether helping run a local event, managing project logistics, or collaborating with a peer on a micro-enterprise, the goal is to turn “I don’t have experience” into:
“Here’s what I’ve done. Here’s what I can do. And here’s where I can contribute.”
A different way forward
The Capability Stack CIC works alongside referral organisations, community organisations, venues, businesses and other partners to create practical routes towards employment, enterprise and wider participation.
We don’t aim to replace existing employment or support services.
We aim to provide something different where a more individual, flexible and strengths-based approach could make the difference.
